The MSK review article describes the patterns of innovation that were crucial for transforming MSK imaging from a field dominated by conventional radiography into a versatile contemporary subspecialty. State of the art joint imaging is described through nine key concepts. And emerging trends are outlined that may influence musculoskeletal radiology in the coming decades.
